Phew…I took a bit of an impromptu Spring Break, and one week turned into two…and then it was HARD to get back into the swing of things. We are in the homestretch of homeschool for the year, and I am NOT gonna lie, I am ready to have a bit of free time each day to FINALLY tackle some of these projects. First up, clean the garage…who else needs a HUGE garage overhaul.??? Mine is BAD!!! Speaking of homeschool, I plan to do some reviews of this year’s curriculum, and then a sneak peak at what we have picked out for next year. I have not shared a TON about…

  • No Pain No Gaines…Because WHO doesn’t love Chip Gaines?!?!

I am 100 percent a Chip and Joanna Gaines fan. Not only their incredibly popular show, FIXER UPPER, or their undeniable talent for creating beauty, or even their amazing vision at Magnolia Market, but also CHIP AND JO…the people. They are just GOOD PEOPLE. I honestly think we could hang out and be best friends. I know that is what EVERY good stalker says, but hey, what famous Texan WOULDN’T want to come to small town Washington and hang out with a complete stranger??? All THAT to say…I REALLY admire Chip and Joanna, so when I was given the chance to receive an early copy of Chip Gaines’ new book…

I just don’t understand Daylight Savings time. Who are we trying to fool?? We all know that when my alarm went off at 6…it was really 5!! I am only one HOUR into it, and I am already exhausted. Today will include a nap for SURE!! You guys…I have been stressing ALL WEEK. I have to speak in church this week and public speaking makes my tummy hurt. I also cannot stop stress eating Cadbury Mini eggs. I am actually not sure WHY I keep buying them. BUT somehow when I start to feel stress, another couple bags just APPEARS in my cart. I am gonna look like an Easter…

  • Decorating 101: 10 tips for creating a gorgeous vignette

I always get asked for tips on styling and how to create pretty vignettes. SOOOOO I thought I would share a few simple styling tips that can help you get started on creating the home of your dreams. I created a simple vignette for my coffee table, but I use the exact same ideas for shelves, tiered trays, dressers, entryways, etc. AND this is exactly where I begin when creating all of the displays for 509 Farmhouse. Once you get the basics of creating an eye appealing vignette, the possibilities for decorating are ENDLESS!! First off, let’s start with WHAT THE HECK IS A VIGNETTE?? This is what the dictionary…

Chips and salsa with friends…is there anything better??!! After this crazy year of lock down, I would settle for Burger King with friends…not even kidding. This was a fun week over on the blog. • Walmart Wednesday: Style on a budget

Happy Walmart Wednesday guys!! Guess what?? I went INSIDE Walmart this week!! I am a BIG fan of Walmart pickup…BIG FAN!! BUT it was fun to wander the aisles again and I found some super cute items I wanted to share. So buckle up for my Walmart finds of the week!! I have had these laundry tins in my cart on multiple occasions, but never pulled the trigger because…well my laundry room is a pit of unhappiness…haha. But seriously there is nothing cute about it. It is always piled with clothes and lost items and bags of dogfood. BUT I may need to just grab these and plan an entire…

  • Thoughts from my little Orchard on the Slope

You guys…I had a mouse in my house this week!! A MOUSE IN MY HOUSE!! I live in a house with 4 cats. FOUR. And I had a mouse infiltrate my laundry room even with those four cats…ugh. Any advice on how to stop this from EVER happening again, clearing any signs of that mouse from my house, and also how to clear all memories of that mouse from my brain would be appreciated. Seriously, I need any and all mouse advice ASAP because I cannot sleep without thinking about his beady little eyes…soooo gross. On a happier note…the mouse is now dead. Not a happier note for the mouse,…

  • Thoughts from my little Orchard on the Slope…

Soooo…the snow is still here…long sigh… Me and spring were starting to make plans, but I just cannot get winter to leave. I mean get the hint already winter…NOBODY likes you!!! ANYWAY… This was a great week on the blog. I shared a simple recipe for Banana Bread that LITERALLY takes 5 minutes and tastes like cake. YUMM!! AND I shared a few of my favorite Jane Austen inspired books. I have been on a major reading kick this past month…something about being trapped inside in a snowstorm with nowhere to go:) Also this week, my baby boy turned TEN years old. My mom ALWAYS used to say that years…

  • Dangerous Alliance Book Review

We got snow this week. Like a ridiculous stupid amount of snow. Basically the entire winter in 2 days. Ugh. Add that to me being sick all week…and you get a LOT more reading time for Jessica. On the plus side, I finally got a chance to read Dangerous Alliance by Jennieke Cohen, which then put me in the mood for ALL THINGS JANE AUSTEN!! For some reason I have been holding onto this book for at least a year just waiting for the right time…and I guess the RIGHT TIME is a snow day! Who knew?!? I had 100 percent judged this book by the cover last year and…

  • Friday Favorites: multiplication games

This week one of my sweet followers asked me for my recommendation on the best multiplication games to help with learning times tables. How have I never shared that here on the blog?? If there is ONE thing we have been working at for what seems like YEARS…it is our multiplication tables. I know there are kids out there who just focus on some flashcards for a few weeks and BOOM know those facts for life. THAT IS NOT MY KID!! Well…technically that is ONE of my kids. Emmy had zero problems learning her times tables. I don’t even remember her asking for any help and I we RARELY practiced…
