20 Simple Valentine’s Day Ideas
I usually kind of forget ALLLL about Valentine’s Day until it sneaks up on me all of the sudden. But this year, since we have SOOOO much more at home time, I have been trying to find ways to make this Valentine’s day special. BUT you know me, I am all about simple and easy. SO I searched pinterest high and low for some SIMPLE ways to make Valentine’s Day special, without breaking the bank or taking weeks to prepare. Here are my top 20 picks for SIMPLE VALENTINE’S DAY IDEA!!
My GO-TO for adding a little fun to each season and holiday is to make a special dinner or snack. We have had jack-o-lantern quesadillas, christmas tree waffles, heart shaped rice krispie treats, and snowman snack cups. Since I have to make dinner anyway, adding a little cute-ness factor really takes me no extra time at all. I am pretty sure this heart shaped pizza is gonna have to happen at our house soon. ONE because I am super craving pizza and TWO because my kids can help and will LOVE IT!! You can follow me on INSTAGRAM to get more fun food ideas.
Tip: We never have holiday food on ACTUAL holidays when everything is already hectic and special. I like to surprise them in the weeks leading up to holidays to spread out the celebrating and add excitement to a boring day.
I don’t know about you, but by the time the 14th rolls around, I am on sugar overload and ready for some REAL food. These fruit treats look AMAZING!! Simple and cute, but also NOT another candy treat to throw in the mix. I am pretty sure this one is going to be added to my to-do list!!
When the kids were tiny, I used to use cookie cutters on their sandwiches all the time, but as they got older I sort of forgot about that. So this year I want to add these adorable heart sandwiches to the menu. I love that it is something we would be eating anyway, we have EVERYTHING we need, and there is no extra clean up. Simple Valentine’s Day for the win!!
These pancake skewers can be fun ANYTIME, but I think I will add them to the Valentine’s day breakfast menu just for fun. Plus, you can really add anything your kids love to eat. I’m thinking of adding bananas and marshmallows. But the possibilities are endless with this one!!
You know how much I love a good kid friendly charcuterie board, but I have NEVER tried a Valentine charcuterie board. This looks like so much fun for a simple party treat…or just to add a bit of fun to Valentine’s Day. It also looks like my pants wont fit in March, but that is probably inevitable anyway:)
And along the same idea is this amazing brunch board!!! This could be simplified to just include waffles and basic toppings and STILL be a great treat for the kids. There is still time to grab a heart shaped waffle maker, or in a pinch just cut your waffles with a cookie cutter. SOOOOO cute!!
I can never resist a good carb, so these heart breadsticks might be my treat to myself. YUMM!!! I love that this doesn’t turn the whole mean into a TREAT meal. You can still have a nice salad, some pasta or chicken, AND ALSO have a fun Valentine themed meal.
I really need to up my table setting game. Usually we are clearing off the day’s junk in the last minutes before dinner so we can sit down and eat together. But HOW FUN WOULD IT BE TO HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL tablescape on the table to make the meal special. My kids would love to wake up to a decorated table like this. PLUS I love that it is super simple…just gift bags, flowers, a bunting, and paper hearts. Easy Peasy!! These faux tulips would be PERFECT too. You could re-use them again for Easter and keep them out all Spring.
How fun is the idea of decorating a bedroom for Valentine’s Day?!?! I love this simple Valentine guest room tour. Just by adding a few touches of red, she created such a fun inviting space!! My kids would go NUTS if I decorated their bedrooms for each holiday…I would be mom of the year instead of (eye roll, sigh, “mom”, sigh, walk away)…at least for a day or two…haha.
Who else loves a good simple craft!?!?! This rustic button heart is perfectly simple, but SOOO cute. PLUS, how special would this be if you used your grandma’s button collection?? I know my mom has cookie tins filled with old buttons from my grandma’s stash. Did anyone else’s grandma use cookie tins, cool whip containers, margarine tubs, and candy boxes for craft storage?? You just never knew what you were getting when you popped the lid off of a cookie tin at Grandma’s house…might be cookies…might be buttons…could be nuts and bolts…or crayons:)
Normally I leave my Christmas porch decor up WAYYYY too long and then just transition straight to spring. BUT how fun would a valentine porch be?!?! She just added hearts to hear Christmas trees and BOOM…February porch perfection!!
You know I love a good tiered tray for ANY holiday!! It is just such a simple way to add in a BIT of themed decor without having to change up your whole house. If I cannot do NOTHING else, I can at least whip up a cute tiered tray to add some festive decor to the house. You can place your tray in the entryway with a cute banner, on the kitchen counter, on a coffee table or in the middle of your dining table.
And did you know you can buy a tiered tray kit on etsy?!?! How cool is that?? You can actually get a whole variety of little signs and pieces for your tray for any season, holiday, or occassion! That kissing booth sign is just too darn cute right?!?!
Do you need tons of farmhouse inspiration?? Head over here to a farmhouse decor round-up to get ALL KINDS of inspired and here for some major modern farmhouse inspo. SOOOO many great ideas for adding Valentine’s Day in, but still keeping with a farmhouse feel.
ANDDD if you are wanting some great tips on adding in SUBTLE hints for Valentine’s Day, my friend Jenn is the expert. She creates the COZIEST home and has the GREATEST vintage collections. I am now in search of vintage cookie cutters after seeing her post. I LOVE that jar filled with cookie cutters SOOOO much!! Super simple, but VERY VERY cute!!
If you are only going to decorate ONE spot in your house for a holiday, I would vote for the mantel. You get soooo much bang for your buck with mantel decor. You can really change the WHOLE look and feel of a room, just by adding small pops of color to create a gorgeous Valentine’s Day mantel.
More than anything, I think that Valentine’s Day is a holiday ALLLL about having fun and making everyone feel special. My friend Susan has the GREATEST Valentine ideas over on her blog…including these cute gumball Valentine’s ORRRR these amazing gumball machine valentines. They look hard, but they are so easy to put together, and she shows it step by step. She also has TONS of free printables, gift ideas, and fun handmade valentine ideas. Her blog is like a one stop Valentine shop…it is a MUST SEE!!
Since we cannot go out this year and celebrate, I am trying to think of some fun AT HOME Valentine ideas too. Here in Washington we cannot even eat inside restaurants yet…BOO!!! If there was ONE thing I could do on Valentine’s Day like a champ, it was EAT OUT…haha. But I am thinking some minute to win it games would be super fun for the kids. Maybe we can at least have grandma over to play with us!!
Well that is my plan for a simple Valentine’s Day!! Follow me on PINTEREST for more fun simple holiday ideas:) I hope you have a super happy AT HOME Valentine’s Day this year and get ALLL the candy your little heart desires. LOVE JESS
