  • The Mindful Heart Homeschool Curriculum

Back to school is still in full swing at Orchard Slope. I have not shared a lot about our previous curriculum choices OR our current homeschool curriculum, but today is the day that all changes. We are on year 3 of homeschool and I finally feel like I have my feet under me as a homeschool mom. I will share ALL of our curriculum choices for 2021 eventually, but I wanna start with The Mindful Heart. You can watch my YouTube video ALL about THE MINDFUL HEART, how we plan to use it in our homeschool, a full flip through, AND information on how to get $200 in free curriculum…

  • Friday Favorites: multiplication games

This week one of my sweet followers asked me for my recommendation on the best multiplication games to help with learning times tables. How have I never shared that here on the blog?? If there is ONE thing we have been working at for what seems like YEARS…it is our multiplication tables. I know there are kids out there who just focus on some flashcards for a few weeks and BOOM know those facts for life. THAT IS NOT MY KID!! Well…technically that is ONE of my kids. Emmy had zero problems learning her times tables. I don’t even remember her asking for any help and I we RARELY practiced…

  • What home-school curriculum are we using this year??

When I initially decided to home-school Ethan, I was SUPER overwhelmed by all of the curriculum options swirling around the internet. It seemed that EVERY one had good reviews and bad reviews, pluses and minuses. SOOOO when we first started, I chose to just patchwork a curriculum together to get us started. BUT soon I realized that winging it was NOT the answer. SO I jumped into researching again, and that is when I discovered THE GOOD AND THE BEAUTIFUL. I downloaded the free Language Arts files and after the FIRST lesson I knew that I had found the answer to WHAT HOME-SCHOOL CURRICULUM will work best for my family?!?…

  • Why we decided to home-school

Let me just start off by saying that I TOTALLY understand the strange looks I receive when I say “I pulled my son out of public school this year and now we are home-schooling.” I get it. I WAS that person. I would have been at the VERY FRONT of the public school parade pointing at the home-school families and shaking my head. That is until my son needed me. He NEEDED me to step in and make a SUPER difficult decision FOR HIM. Let me start at the beginning. Ethan is a good kid. He is a delightful kid. He doesn’t get into trouble, cause problems, or push boundaries.…

All opinions remain my own. In my opinion, there are only two types of people in this world…those who like board games…and weirdos. Haha. I LOVE GAMES!! And when people tell me they DON’T love to play games, it is basically like they are speaking Latin to me…I DO NOT understand. Since March (when life as we know it changed and this crazy thing we call social distancing started to rock my mommin’ world), I have pretty…

All opinions remain my own. We recently took a LONGGG road-trip to Yellowstone, and I was SUPER worried about the hours and hours we would be spending in the car. We ended up driving almost 2 thousand miles in 4 days, so all of the worry was NOT wasted…it was A LOT OF DRIVING TIME!! Luckily I downloaded a few books to try out on Audible before we left…and HANDS DOWN our favorite was GLITCH by Laura…

  • The Dino Files…perfect for my reluctant reader

Some of the links in this post are affiliate links. This means if you click on the link and purchase the item, I will receive an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. All opinions remain my own. Being the mom of a reluctant reader can be tough. Being a READER mom to a reluctant reader can be ALMOST heart wrenching. WHY oh WHY would anyone NOT want to read books??? It is also hard not to feel guilt, anger, denial…well let’s just say ALL emotions are pretty fair game. Did I read to him enough as a baby?? Did I let him watch too many cartoons. Should I have…

All opinions remain my own. When I was growing up, I tried EVERYTHING within my power to NOT BE A NERD. But now that I am over 40 (ahem…just barely, so don’t get excited), I pretty much just embrace my inner nerd-bomber LIKE A BOSS!! So that means when we are learning about ants in our arthropod unit…I am the FIRST one to get excited about the ant farm. And when we are learning about crustaceans, I…
