We recently took a LONGGG road-trip to Yellowstone, and I was SUPER worried about the hours and hours we would be spending in the car. We ended up driving almost 2 thousand miles in 4 days, so all of the worry was NOT wasted…it was A LOT OF DRIVING TIME!! Luckily I downloaded a few books to try out on Audible before we left…and HANDS DOWN our favorite was GLITCH by Laura Martin.

Glitch By Laura Martin

Glich is the story of two kids, Regan and Elliot, who are in training to become glitchers…aka time traveling FIXERS who jump through time in order to STOP time terrorist from changing important historical events. Regan is the commander’s daughter, but not a great student and Elliot is the top student, but NOT a great person. Of course they REALLY do not get along…and of course they end up having to work together as a team to save the past…AND the future.

Disclaimer…I am pretty new to liking Audible. Up until PRETTY recently, I was a REAL book girl all the way. I slowly started down the path of digital books…but audio-books were NOT my thing. Then I realized that it was not the the AUDIO problem…It was a NARRATOR problem. If I don’t like the narrator…I cannot listen to the audio-book!! Simple as that. It is like listening to an old dusty professor to learn history…nope…cannot do it. I need to be entertained!! And although I have been reading to my kids A LOT, they have never experienced audio-books either. SOOO this was our FIRST jump into audio together. Luckily we picked a good one. The narration for this one was perfect. There are two main characters, a girl and a boy…and there are two narrators, a girl and boy…making this the perfect first “read aloud” audio-book for newbies.

My kids LOVED this book and days later we still talk about it. We ended up listening for HOURS at a time in the car, and nobody complained. My husband (the one who hates books and reading and rolled his eyes BIG TIME when I mentioned that I had downloaded books for the trip) even mentioned that Glitch would make a great movie!!! Even though this book is technically a middle grade novel meant for 3rd-7th graders, I might have enjoyed this one more than anyone and when a sequel comes out, I will read it with or without my littles. AND Ethan had me look up OTHER books by Laura Martin as soon as Glitch was over…I call that a success for my reluctant reader…woohoo!! We were excited to find a few more titles under her name and I think Edge of Extinction is next on our list…Ethan will pretty much read ANYTHING about dinosaurs right now (check out our dino-favorite HERE).

So I know that 2020 is only half over, even though it feels like it has been about 50 months long already, but GLITCH is our FAVORITE book of 2020 BY FAR!!! The kids loved that it was full of exciting time travel. I loved that it was filled with REAL LIFE historical events like the Boston Tea Party and Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. AND our entire family loved the funny fast paced writing. Honestly, if I could find 10 more books as good as this one, I MIGHT be able to finally convince Ethan that reading can be as much fun as Minecraft. Or at LEAST that reading can be fun…haha. I promise…I WILL get that boy to like to read one of these days!!!

pin for later!!
