Christmas Home Tour 2018
Welcome to Orchard Slope at Christmas…one of my FAVORITE times of the year!!! This year I went full on vintage plaid with my Christmas décor. What started with me finding a few plaid thermoses at a junk show, ended with a WHOLE new look for Christmas including vintage coolers, sleds, Santa mugs, and ANYTHING in a vintage plaid!!
My favorite spot in the house is the hot cocoa bar in the dining nook…I mean who doesn’t enjoy a cup of cocoa…or 6…when it is cold outside?? To add a quick cocoa bar to your Winter home, all you need is cocoa, some cute mugs, and a tray. Easy and fun for the kiddos. I also stocked up on whipped cream, marshmallows, and candy canes, but that is because for 2 months out of the year I basically eat like Buddy the Elf.
I tried to include some plaid elements throughout to keep the house cohesive…and because I COULD NOT stop finding plaid cuteness wherever I went. Don’t forget to always check the dollar spot at Target…they have great Holiday décor on the CHEAP. I got these buckets, the blanket (I used as a runner), the trees, and the sled…OKAY…NOT the sled. BUT FOR REALS…they have great inexpensive ON TREND décor for EVERY holiday!!!
I started off with these cotton wreaths from Hob Lob on the backs of the stools. I enjoyed them for Fall and decided to keep them for a change. But I REALLY missed my green wreaths from years passed and decided to go with my gut and swap them out. Wanna know the trick to hanging chair wreaths??? Command hooks. I know…so simple.
The faux mantle in my bedroom was just BEGGING to get Christmas-ed, so I decided to give it a very vintage traditional feel. It is AMAZING to me how much more I enjoy hanging out in my room when it is clean and decorated. It was like my own little Winter getaway and I will miss that cozy feeling after Christmas.
For some reason I just COULD not make my mind up this year. I started with our tree in the entryway, but I got a wild hair and moved it the week before Christmas. And honestly if Christmas was in January, I would probably move everything around again before it was all said and done. It think it is all of the Christmas goodies…I get all jittery and ready for change…haha.
Do you change out your tree decorations every year??? I wanted a big change this year…but didn’t want to spend BIG CHANGE, so I really tried to use items from around the house. I started with rolled up book pages, added in cotton stems and lamb’s ear that I had from Spring and Fall, and then slowly started to add rustic ornaments from a few years back. I truly believe that the trick to decorating a Christmas tree is just to keep adding until you cannot shove ONE MORE THING in. Half way through I was NOT thrilled, BUT I just kept adding and adding until I liked the fullness. This tree is a cheap $30 flocked tree from Walmart, but by adding and fluffing, it looks nice and full and decorated.
I started decorating the beginning of November, but I am still not ready to let the cozy Christmas feels go. Will you judge me if my tree is still up for Valentine’s Day?? Merry Christmas FROM ORCHARDSLOPE and many blessing for the New Year!
