How to begin to declutter your home: a 15 day challenge

declutter your home: where to begin

Do you want to start decluttering your home, but don’t know where to begin??

Raise your hand if you have places in your house that you would not DARE to let anybody see. Keep them raised if you have to constantly buy new stuff because you cannot FIND the stuff you already have. Anybody still hanging on to your fat clothes…or your skinny clothes…or your high school clothes even?? On the top of my shame list…a sewing room that I cannot ACTUALLY sew in because it is full of Christmas totes, a linen closet that is storing VERY few linens, and a walk in pantry that you cannot currently WALK into. I have more crap then crap storage locations and it is NOT GOING WELL!!! I need to change my ways…PRONTO!!! But how do we even begin to declutter our homes???

Declutter your house: where to begin

Now I KNOW I need to organize MANYYYYY areas of my house, but FIRST I need to go to PurgeTown…population 1. I simply have too much unnecessary stuff to even BEGIN to think about organizing it. Organizing my crap filled spaces would be like re-arranging furniture on the Titanic. SOOOO I decided to challenge myself to purge FIFTEEN bags-o-crap. I made a list of the major problems in my home and I am going to tackle EACH AND EVERY ONE!!! The goal??? Fill a garbage bag/box/tote from each area of items to either donate or dump.

Decluttering: where to start

Let’s begin to declutter together…

So I have decided to take these two weeks after Christmas and begin the de-crapification of Orchard Slope. Who wants to join me??? I picked the areas in my home that need to be tackled and made a check-off list to keep me motivated. THINK grown up sticker chart. I don’t plan to go in order…just pick an area at random and start purging. I also did not set specific time periods, dates, or deadlines. The reason: I am the type of person who starts a challenge with guns blazing, gets behind by a day or two, gets overwhelmed, and ends up quitting and eating cookie dough for three days instead (or you know…whatever…not that that is a REAL example or anything).

So I just plan to start ASAP because the hardest part is just knowing how to begin to declutter all of the things we have filling the corners and crevices of our lives right?? I then plan to give myself till the 15th (ish) of January to clear out 15 bags of junk. PLUS…what if you don’t read this until June??? Doesn’t matter. Just print the challenge and begin where you are!! If you want to join me, download the free printable and play along. Share your pictures on instagram using #clean15challenge and tag me (https://www.instagram.com/orchardslope/ ) …we can help keep each other motivated!!!
