The Things We Cannot Say
Although I have been venturing out into YA fiction and other genres lately, my true literary love is Historical Fiction. It appeals to my History teacher nerd side, and my English teacher literary side and makes both sides play nice together. Plus I always feel better about my reading if I come out of the book knowing more than I did when I went in. The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer is a story of the Holocaust woven into a modern drama of a mom struggling to raise an autistic son. The two tales are linked through the generations into a wonderful but heart wrenching book about love, loss, and living the life that is placed before you…even if it is NOT the life you had dreamed of.
The Things We Cannot Say has been my favorite book of 2019 so far. I became so emotionally invested in the story of Alina and her family living in Nazi occupied Poland. And then with Alice trying to uncover the truth about her Polish grandmother before it is too late. I LOVE a good mystery, and this story kept me guessing up until the very end. I know I have taken a break from Historical Fiction, but I AM BACK!! Leave me your book suggestions in the comments, I would LOVE to add your Historical Fiction favorites to my TBR list:)
I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review, but the thoughts and feelings about the book are 100% mine.
Pin for later!!!
