Thoughts from my little Orchard on the Slope…

Soooo…the snow is still here…long sigh…

Me and spring were starting to make plans, but I just cannot get winter to leave. I mean get the hint already winter…NOBODY likes you!!!

ANYWAY…

  • This was a great week on the blog. I shared a simple recipe for Banana Bread that LITERALLY takes 5 minutes and tastes like cake. YUMM!! AND I shared a few of my favorite Jane Austen inspired books. I have been on a major reading kick this past month…something about being trapped inside in a snowstorm with nowhere to go:)

  • Also this week, my baby boy turned TEN years old. My mom ALWAYS used to say that years just start to FLY by as you get older…and now I understand. Both kids are in double digits now and I am feeling the need to hold onto these next few years PRETTY tight!!!
  • I started watching ANNE with and E on Netflix this week. I watched season one when it first came out, but had a hard time sticking with it because it wandered away from the original at times. And I am NOTHING if not a HUGE fan of the original Anne!! BUT I decided to give it another try when I noticed there are three seasons now. I have NEVER been able to resist Anne and her funny mix ups. The raspberry cordial is my favorite of course!! The Netflix version shows how dark her past really was…and now I love MY ANNE even more. Which is good since I live at Orchard Slope…we SHOULD be bosom friends right?!?! (Sidenote…if you are an ANNE fan and have not read THIS book yet…you are missing out!!)

Well that was the excitement of MY week…

Wanna know what I found this week that I CANNOT live without?!?!

  1. Ok. SOOOO I know this is going to sound weird, but a friend of a friend mentioned the most comfortable bra of all time on a Facebook comment a few months back…and I HAD to try it out. And guess what??? She was right!!! Now I just want to start with a disclaimer…this is not a date night super sexy cue the music type of bra. This is a we are about to celebrate the 1 year-aversary of social distancing and haven’t worn real pants in 11 months kind of bra. And disclaimer number 2…I don’t need a ton of support seeing as I pretty much wear the same size bra I wore in middle school, so I cannot say how this one would work out for those of you who HAVE upgraded since 9th grade. THERE it had to be said. Now that the awkward preamble is out of the way…THIS is the bra. It has no wires….PRAISE THE STARS. I don’t feel the need to rip it off the moment I walk in the door. AND it lays nice under t-shirts. And the best part…it is under $15!!! There…we are the kind of friends who talk about their bras together now…lucky you!! Now we are REALLY bosom friends…see what I did there???

2. Ok…moving on. I didn’t make it to the actual store this week, but I spotted these Time and Tru leopard espadrilles on the Walmart Website and I MUST HAVE THEM. They are in my cart AS WE SPEAK!! And because I currently only own 2 pairs of leopard print shoes (out of maybe 6 TOTAL pairs of shoes I actually wear…haha) I decided I might need these leopard shoes for spring as well. Can a person REALLY ever have too much leopard…I think NOT!! Especially at the Walmart price!!

3. Speaking of Walmart, have you tried Walmart Better Homes candles yet?? They got a new look and I had to grab a couple. They are just too pretty!! I love that they look more modern farmhouse now!! Red lava citrus is my favorite scent…perfect for spring. Word on the street is that this candle is a perfect dupe of a SUPER expensive Anthropologie candle, but I am too cheap to even know that for sure:) In other Walmart scent news, I have an ALL TIME favorite wax melt scent too. It is Orange Butter Cream Cupcake and it is DIVINE!! We started melting this scent at 509 Farmhouse a few weeks ago, and have at LEAST 20 people a day asking what the scent is. My kids think it smells like Fruit Loops. I think it smells like Heaven.

4. I am about as low maintenance as they come, and since Covid kicked in, my beauty routine is basically face wipes and mascara. BUT if I am only gonna wear ONE stitch of makeup…it is gonna be THIS mascara!! I have tried A LOT of mascara over the years and never been loyal to one brand. UNTIL NOW. I just purchased this one for the FOURTH time…which has to be a record for me. It adds length AND volume. Has a sturdy brush…I hate bendy rubber wands…ugh. AND it stays on and doesn’t flake off. Plus it is always less than $10!!

5. Did you hear that Kristin Hannah released a new book in February?!?! FOUR WINDS is her brand new book and I cannot wait to read it. It is set during the Great Depression…my history nerd self is ALL in on this one!! I am still waiting to start reading FireFly Lane, but I might have to just skip ahead to Four Winds.

6. And last but FOR SURE not least…this fake snow was a HUGE hit at our house. I know we have REAL snow right now, but this fake snow is WAY better. You just add a tiny bit of water and it puffs up to make a snow-like pile. It even FEELS like snow. I don’t know how or why, but it is amazing. If you have kids in your life, they will love this. I wish Ethan was a little smaller because this would make awesome sensory bins. Just plop some toy arctic animals in there and you will be the coolest mom, grandma, aunt EVER!! I am thinking by Easter basket time we will be ready for some FAKE snow again right?!?!

What is catching my eye over on Pinterest this week??

I am all about pizza…and this low carb pizza casserole recipe stopped my scroll!!! I love crust, but I also need to fit into my pants after the pandemic ends. Haha.

Who else thinks the shamrock shake at McDonalds should stay alllllll year long?! See why I cannot fit in my jeans!! But I spied a Shamrock Shake copycat recipe this week that I MUST TRY.

THIS SPRING WREATH is so simple and pretty….I love a good DIY!! AND it is so hard to find an inexpensive wreath!!

Dollar Store crafts get me EVERY TIME. This bunny makeover is so simple…but perfect to add more of a neutral Easter vibe.

I have made a lot of stuffed bunnies over the years, but I love this new sew version…and BUFFALO PLAID!!!

In the past I have talked A LOT of smack about Walmart, but I ALWAYS keep coming back. I just found this fun account on Pinterest that shares ALL of the favorite Walmart finds…YES PLEASE. That way I don’t have to search on my own…I can go in with a plan.

AND I spotted my own pin on pinterest….that is always a fun surprise. Apparently lots of people need help keeping the top of their cabinets clean.

Come join me over on PINTEREST for more inspiration!! I love looking at projects I will NEVER complete…haha!!

And because EVERY week is better with a little ANNE in it…

Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it.–ANNE

Have a great week!! I am planning to start FRESH tomorrow…with no mistakes. Let’s chat soon. JESS
