Friday Favorites: How to clean on TOP of kitchen cabinets.
Okay. So I had a WHOOOOLE other Friday Favorite for today…but then I started cleaning my kitchen and ECHHH…I was disgusted. I removed the decor from my upper cabinets, and there was SOOOO MUCH DUST up there. And not just REGULAR dust…it was that icky sticky super cosmic un-DUSTABLE dust!! Luckily my friend Bobbie came to the rescue (hay girl hey!!) and shared a tip that BLEW MY MIND!! Anddddd that is how THIS Friday Favorites post was born…how to clean the TOP of the kitchen cabinets…AND keep them cleaner!!
SOOO as soon as my friend shared this little gem with me, I KNEW I had to pass it along. BASICALLY, I was complaining about lugging the vacuum up and attempting to clean the tops of the cabinets. THEY WERE SOOOO gross. And she said…”I heard that you can use paper towels or wax paper to keep from having to clean up there.” And then she just went on with her life and my mind stopped and COULD NOT process ANY new information until I discovered if this was a REAL solution. AND guess what…IT IS!!
Here is the basic rundown of what I did.
- Remove EVERYTHING from the tops of your cabinets. Don’t just try to move it to the side…it wont work. You need to start fresh!!
- Vacuum the tops to remove all the dust and random disgusting-ness.
- Use a wet cloth with your choice of cleaner to wipe down cabinet tops. I needed this extra step because the dust was sticky and need MORE than just a quick vacuum.
- You may need to vacuum again. But just remember that this is the very LAST time you will need to vacuum up there…so it is worth it to get it CLEAN!!
- Grab a roll of freezer paper, wax paper, paper towels, etc. I used freezer paper because it is what I have on hand. It worked GREAT because it was about 18 inches wide and covered all in one piece. We do not use paper towel at our house, but that would be an easy way to go as well. Anything that can just be rolled in, used, and thrown away will work.
- Cover the tops of the cabinets with paper to keep them from getting dusty again.
- THEN next time you need to clean them, just remove the paper…throw it away…and start fresh. EASY PEASY!!
And that is it. Such a simple solution. I am so excited that this is DONE and that I NEVER have to clean above the kitchen cabinets again. YAY for lazy cleaners like me!! Let’s chat again soon. Jess
pin for later!!
