Love Inspired By Harlequin

I am a reader. I love to read JUST ABOUT anything. I actually got in trouble in Elementary for reading too far ahead in my reading book and AGAIN in High School for reading Ethan Frome in one night and telling the whole class how it ends. I cannot always help myself when I find a good book. I lean more often towards historical fiction and YA fantasy these days, but I also love a good romance. But it is not always easy to find a book that fits the ROMANCE bill without also being completely trashy. Don’t get me wrong, I love a romantic storyline, but I don’t need a play-by-play of every love scene. PLUS I need a plot. In my opinion, Sex is NOT a plot…haha.
When Emersyn was a little girl just starting to read, she picked up a book that I had laying around and just started reading it out loud. Luckily it was a sweet little Amish romance book, but it made me really think about what I was spending my time reading. I decided then and there to only read books that I would be comfortable sharing with either my mother OR my daughter (or at least a future Emersyn…since some books I read I wouldn’t necessarily give her as a 12-year-old…but would totally share with her when she is 16). If I would be ashamed to share it with either of them, I didn’t need to read it myself. This can sometimes be hard because I am sent books on a regular basis to preview and review, so I am pretty picky about which offers I accept. I was recently given the opportunity to review a book from Harlequin’s new LOVE INSPIRED collection. Of course my mind first went to Harlequin Romance novels…but I was totally wrong!!
Harlequin describes their LOVE INSPIRED books as “uplifting stories of faith and hope.” They have Love Inspired books with different themes too…suspense, historical romance, contemporary fiction, inspirational romance, etc. They also release new titles every month. I was gifted the Love Inspired novel, A WISH FOR HOME by Jo Ann Brown. It was a sweet book about an EX-Amish girl named Lauren who has lived outside of the Amish community with her parents for many years, but has to return to Lancaster County on a business trip. Now a successful businesswoman, she is working with developers to build a casino near the Amish community she once lived in. As she travels through for business, she is stuck in a snowstorm and wrecks on a covered bridge and is forced to live among her former Amish friends and family. She begins to learn WHY her parents left their home in the middle of the night years ago, who she really is, and why she still feels drawn toward her old Amish lifestyle. I can never resist a good Amish love story…I have no idea why I find them so intriguing, but I do. And the best part…I can hand this book off to both my mom AND Emersyn and KNOW they will also enjoy a good clean uplifting book as well.
When I stumbled upon this covered bridge in Oregon, I KNEW I had to snap a quick picture…even though it was pouring rain. It was toooo perfectly ALMOST Amish:) ANYWAY…LOVE INSPIRED is even offering 2 free ebooks to try out. I have not read the free eBooks yet, but you better believe I am going to. My favorite books are FREE books…haha. Hope that helps if you are looking for some good clean uplifting books to read. Happy Summer Reading friends. –JESSICA
