I always get asked for tips on styling and how to create pretty vignettes. SOOOOO I thought I would share a few simple styling tips that can help you get started on creating the home of your dreams. I created a simple vignette for my coffee table, but I use the exact same ideas for shelves, tiered trays, dressers, entryways, etc. AND this is exactly where I begin when creating all of the displays for 509 Farmhouse. Once you get the basics of creating an eye appealing vignette, the possibilities for decorating are ENDLESS!! First off, let’s start with WHAT THE HECK IS A VIGNETTE?? This is what the dictionary…

  • Recipe: Mud Pie Cups

Last month was Ethan’s birthday and he made a request for homemade mud pie for his party. Mud pie has been a staple at family birthday parties for as far back as I can remember, but Ethan threw a little wrench in my plans when he asked…”Can they each have a little individual mud pie…like a cupcake??” CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!! I decided to TRY making Mud Pie Cups and SUCCESS!! We have found a new family favorite…Mud Pie Cups. A few helpful tips: Use pretty sturdy cups because the crust on the bottom takes some effort to get out…and you don’t want a destroyed cup raining ice-cream all over your house.…

  • Cherry Picking

This post may contain affiliate links. So the highlight of my week…finding Key Lime Pie M&M’s. They are sooooo stinking good. I hope they keep them around through the summer…orrrrr I might just have to go buy ALL of the bags at Walgreens before they run out…haha!! I got to eat in a restaurant this week…whoop whoop!! Chips and salsa with friends…is there anything better??!! After this crazy year of lock down, I would settle for Burger King with friends…not even kidding. This was a fun week over on the blog. • St. Patrick’s Day Book Page Banner

Have you had a Shamrock Shake yet?? Don’t ask how I know, but they make a good breakfast!! Haha. I have to be honest, I don’t do much to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. I don’t think I own ANYTHING green. I have never had corned beef…I don’t even have a clue how one would go about corning a beef. Cabbage has NEVER been on my menu…not one time since I left my mom’s house. And I actually don’t know another single St. Patrick’s Day tradition. BUTTTTT I did make a super cute Shamrock Book Page Banner and listed them in the ETSY SHOP. ORRRRR if you want to create your…

  • Book Review: Relentless Solution Focus

I am usually not much of a self-help book reader, but if 2020/2021 has taught me ANYTHING, it is to expect the unexpected. I was gifted this book and was TOTALLY intrigued by the Subtitle…TRAIN YOUR MIND TO CONQUER STRESS, PRESSURE, AND UNDERPERFORMANCE. If there is ONE thing I feel on the daily, it is stress, pressure, and guilt. So I hopped right into reading Relentless Solution Focus by Dr. Jason Selk. RLS (Relentless Solution Focus) is actually less of a self help type book, and more of a plan for living a more action driven life. My favorite part of the book is when Dr. Selk states that we…

It is always piled with clothes and lost items and bags of dogfood. BUT I may need to just grab these and plan an entire…

  • Thoughts from my little Orchard on the Slope

You guys…I had a mouse in my house this week!! A MOUSE IN MY HOUSE!! I live in a house with 4 cats. FOUR. And I had a mouse infiltrate my laundry room even with those four cats…ugh. Any advice on how to stop this from EVER happening again, clearing any signs of that mouse from my house, and also how to clear all memories of that mouse from my brain would be appreciated. Seriously, I need any and all mouse advice ASAP because I cannot sleep without thinking about his beady little eyes…soooo gross. On a happier note…the mouse is now dead. Not a happier note for the mouse,…

  • 5 ways to save money on groceries

I think we can allllll agree that spending all of our money on groceries is SOOOO disappointing. We dream of going on fun vacations, buying a boat or a lake house or a new car. We want to fund our kids’ college funds and save for retirement. BUTTT we have to spend money on food. Every. Single. Month. The average American household spends between $550 and $900 each month on food. That is $6,000-$11,000 each year. Wouldn’t it be nice to have something more fun to show for that $11,000 than a chubby tummy??:) So for me, when I am trying to save money and rein in my spending, I…

  • Thoughts from my little Orchard on the Slope…

Soooo…the snow is still here…long sigh… Me and spring were starting to make plans, but I just cannot get winter to leave. I mean get the hint already winter…NOBODY likes you!!! ANYWAY… This was a great week on the blog. I shared a simple recipe for Banana Bread that LITERALLY takes 5 minutes and tastes like cake. YUMM!! AND I shared a few of my favorite Jane Austen inspired books. I have been on a major reading kick this past month…something about being trapped inside in a snowstorm with nowhere to go:) Also this week, my baby boy turned TEN years old. My mom ALWAYS used to say that years…
